The
will be held Sunday morning, September 11th at Ada Hayden Heritage Park in north Ames.  Individuals or teams up to four will compete on a course consisting of a three-mile canoe race, followed by a 15-mile bike ride and finishing with a 5K run.  See www.greatamesadventurerace.org for more information.

The Story County Amateur Radio Club and Story County ARES are providing communications for the race. Amateur radio operators will be stationed around the race course and provide status reports and emergency communications.  I recommend all amateurs wear a florescent orange or green vest to be more visible to the race participants and vehicles out on the bike route.  The race begins at 7:30 am and the last operators should be finished by late morning, usually no later than 10:30 am.  All volunteers are entitled to a free t-shirt and pancake breakfast during the awards ceremony at the Moose Lodge following the race.  If you able to help with the event beginning at 7:15 am, please reply to Clint Miller with:

*phone number:

*have 2 meter ht, mobile, or both?:

If this is your first public service event and aren’t comfortable being out on your own yet, let me know and I can team you up with someone more experienced. Volunteers do not have to be registered members of Story County ARES, but they will be checked to ensure they are compliant with our new Member Standards Policy at www.storyares.org/downloads

If you need to arrive late or leave early, mention that in your email. I have a few positions that are flexible.

I appreciate everyone’s willingness to help.
