Dinner starts at 6:00pm and the auction begins at 7:00pm. The cost is $5.00 per person for admission. The general public/non-members are welcome, so feel free to bring your family, friends and any extra equipment you have laying around waiting to be sold!

Please bring a hot dish and a cold dish plus your own tableware. The club will provide a smoked ham; coffee, tea, and hot cider will also be furnished.

Serving will begin at 7:00 PM. Dinner will be followed by seasonal music played by the Plymouth handbell choir. The choir will go through the food line first, so please be generous with the size of your dishes.

Following the music, the Winthrop Mager Award will be announced. For those not familiar with Plymouth, there is a parking garage on the east side of the church in case of bad weather. Signage in the church will direct you to Waveland Hall, which is on the 2nd floor. Come and enjoy the food and fellowship!

Bands

Contacts may be made on any amateur band except 60M and the WARC bands.

Scoring

QSO Points: Each complete, non-duplicate phone is worth one point. Each complete, non-duplicate CW or Digital contact is worth two points. Duplicate contacts are worth zero points. A station may be worked ONCE per MODE (1 cw or digital and 1 phone). Mobiles may be worked once per mode per county. Note: Working the same station on the same mode on a different band is a duplicate contact….just one contact per mode per county with any given station.

Multipliers

Iowa Stations: One multiplier for each Iowa county worked, one multiplier for each state (including Iowa) or Canadian province worked(NF, LB, NB, NS, PEI, QC, ON, MB, SK, AB, BC, NWT, YT, NU), and one multiplier for each of the current or past Iowa *Section Managers (SM1, SM2, or SM3).
Stations outside Iowa: One multiplier for each Iowa county worked and one multiplier for each of the current or past Iowa *Section Managers (SM1, SM2, or SM3) worked. (*-ones living in Iowa) Bonus Points: 100 bonus points will be awarded for stations working the sponsoring club’s station – WAØDX

DX stations do not have any multiplier credit, but may be worked for QSO points

Final Score

Non-mobile stations: Multiply total QSO points by the total number of multipliers plus bonus points earned.
Mobile stations: Multiply the total QSO points from all counties activated by the total number of unique multipliers worked from all counties activated plus bonus points earned.
Club Competition: Scores attributed to any amateur radio club will be credited towards that club. All clubs with at three or more credited scores will be included in an overall ranking of those scores with a certificate awarded to the club with the highest score.

Miscellaneous

1. All stations are limited to no more than 125 watts.
2. Mobile Iowa stations who change counties are considered to be a new station in each new county.
3. Mobile stations should identify either /county abbreviation or /M
4. Mobile stations may park on a county line but each county must be worked in a separate contact.
5. Mobile stations must be in a vehicle capable of being in motion.
6. Spotting on the packet clusters or via internet is permissible, including self-spotting.
7. List of Iowa Counties and 3 letter abbreviations. All ops are urged to use these abbreviations in the exchange.

9. There are no multi-op categories this year, mobile operators are encouraged to drive with a friend for safety (and better scores)!

Submission of Logs

All stations must submit a log and summary form this one by email or
this one by USPS
Logs must be submitted by November 10, 2009. Electronic logs and summary sheets should be sent to IAQSO@YAHOO.COM Other files sent which are readable with a text editor are accepted. .BIN files should not be submitted. Logs submitted via email must contain the call alone in the subject line (call must be that used in the log).

Note: Since this is our first go at sponsoring a qso party, it may become necessary to modify or clarify the rules. Please check back from time to time.

Spring has sprung and the Hamfest is over. The mind of every radio-loving amateur now turns to one of our favorite events, Field Day. The DMRAA and ARTS clubs will again be jointly conducting Field Day operations at the Jolly Boat shelter in Big Creek State Park, just west of Polk City.

What is Field Day? Field Day is sponsored by the ARRL and is the culmination of Amateur Radio Week. It is a publicly-held training exercise that helps radio amateurs prepare for emergencies. Skilled work and planning is required to select radio equipment, frequencies, and antennas to facilitate operating under less-than-ideal conditions.

During Field Day, operators set up in local parks, at shopping malls, or even in their own backyards, and get on the air using generators or battery power. Field Day was designed to test operators’ abilities to set up and operate portable stations under emergency conditions such as the loss of electricity. During the weekend, radio operators
then try to contact as many other Field Day stations as possible.

“We want the community to know that in the event of an emergency, we will be ready to assist in any way we can, says Tom Reis, DMRAA President. “While people often think that cell phones or other communications technologies have replaced ham radio, we can
still provide an important communications service that others can’t.”

Field day is also fun! Attendees will have a chance to try new or different radios, build friendships with other radio amateurs, learn new skills, and make contacts with people around the world. Everyone is welcome to attend, from the serious contester to the unlicensed newcomer.

We hope that anyone who is interested in seeing what Amateur Radio
is all about will come out for Field Day.
