Volunteers needed for the Great Ames Adventure Race (GAAR) September 8

Aug 15th, 2019 | By | Category: Chatter

The Great Ames Adventure Race (GAAR) will be held Sunday, September 8, at Ada Hayden Heritage Park in Ames.  The race consists of three activities – canoeing in the lake, biking north of Ames, and running around the park.  See http://www.greatamesadventurerace.org/ for more information including course maps.

We have once again been requested to provide radio communications for this event. Amateur radio operators will be stationed around the race course to provide status reports and emergency communications.

I would like to ask local radio operators to volunteer to support this event.  The race begins at 7:30 AM and the last participants should be finished by around 10:30 AM.  As a volunteer, you are eligible for a GAAR t-shirt and to attend the pancake breakfast during the awards ceremony at the Moose Lodge following the race.

If you able to help with this event, please email me at [email protected] with

We need operators to be in position by 7:15 AM for a radio check and announcements.  If you need to arrive late or leave early, please mention in your email so I can match you to an appropriate position.

All operators should wear a safety vest to enhance their visibility to the race participants, race officials, and other folks along the course.  This is particularly important along the bike route.

Thank you very much!
