Lightning Wrokshop- Designing to Minimize Its Effects, September 22nd

Aug 30th, 2016 | By | Category: Chatter

This will be an all-day workshop with the intent of helping attendees learn the essential design points of how to minimize damaging after-effects from lightning strikes and induced energy.  The emphasis will be on practical design approaches for both fixed facility and platform issues (grounding and use of protectors), as well as design considerations for pc boards and chassis units.  There will be common sessions for all attendees, plus a 2-track approach to cover the particular interests of specialists.

Lunch will be included for all attendees so as to maximize networking time and viewing of vendor displays.

This event is intended for engineers, technicians, and designers working in or with telecommunications, aerospace, mobile and fixed site platforms that host communications facilities, and 2-way radio or broadcast operations.

Speakers:   Three (3) key speakers will lead the presentations.  They are:

  • Robert Scully, PhD, KG5KVV, Lead EMC Engineer, NASA Johnson Space Center – Immediate Past President of IEEE EMC Society
  • Larry W. Pinkston, ABØQS, Nuclear Effects/Lightning/High energy EM Fields (retired), Rockwell Collins
  • Dale G. Svetanoff, WA9ENA, Senior EMC Engineer, E-N-A Systems, LLC – Chair of CR Section EMC-S Chapter
  • Additional speakers/presenters from vendors, including Sebastian Munera (Schneider Electric)
