NBEMS Topic for March Meeting
Feb 27th, 2014 | By Tom Reis NØVPR | Category: AlertsTweet
Clint Miller, KCØJUO will present the NBEMS software program. Rather than just a demo, Clint has asked that any interested members brink their laptops to the March 25th meeting. The plan is to have the software available on thumb drives so that members can load and test the program. The use of this software may prove beneficial during disaster situations. The meeting is intended to be “hand on”.
Introduction to Digital EmComm with NBEMS
The Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System (NBEMS) is an Open Source sound card software suite that allows amateur radio operators to reliably send and receive data using nearly any computer and any analog radio without requiring a dedicated digital infrastructure or specialized hardware. NBEMS works on both VHF/UHF FM and on HF and has big potential for increasing amateur capabilities during an emergency communication response. In this presentation you will learn the basics of sending and receiving data using Fldigi. You will also see how to easily send and receive files and forms 100% error-free using Flmsg. It will conclude with a live demonstration of several digital modes using both the “Acoustical Coupling” and sound card interface methods of connecting the computer and radio.
