DMR Coming to Des Moines
Apr 16th, 2017 | By Des Moines Radio Amateurs' Association | Category: ChatterTweet
Digital Mobile Radio is coming to Des Moines. DMR as it is commonly called is a digital protocol that allows multiple users to connect locally, across the state, nation and worldwide.
I am pleased to announce that we are in the process of acquiring a Motorola Mototrbo XTR8300 repeater for the Des Moines area. The repeater will be located at 320’ on the NØINX Grimes tower. The repeater is being acquired with donated funds. I have had several donations and my goal is to have the repeater in operation by the end of April. To move forward, more donations are still needed. While any amount is fine, $20 to $50 from many folks will get the job done. There will be a donation jar at the DMRAA Hamfest on Saturday.
Note: Any donations beyond the amount needed for the repeater will be used to purchase radios for the State Emergency Operations Center and the National Weather Service.
Feel free to contact me with questions.
Thanks to NØIWT for getting the donations started and to NØINX and WØDAY for the use of the tower.
Please encourage people that you have contact with to begin the process to register their call sign and be issued a DMR ID# by going to the DMR-Marc database at https://www.dmr-marc.net/cgi-bin/trbo-database/register.cgi, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and clicking on the “User Registration” button.
Then, if they go ahead and purchase an MD-380 or MD-390…or any of the Motorola or Connect Systems handheld or mobile radios we would be happy to load the code plug in their new radios for them during the hamfest next Saturday so that they are ready to use the DMR system when the repeater is online
